Born February 6, 1945, in Tioga, he was the son of the late James Franklin and Bertha Georgia Brooks Tyler. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Tyler, and Dixie Greene; and by two brothers, Virgil and Archie Tyler.
He was a deacon at Nile Chapel Church, Summersville, a Navy veteran, a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA with 34 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Phala Lester Tyler; one son, Denver Charles Tyler and his wife, Ginny, of Albert Lea, Minn.; three daughters, Julia Tyler of Rainelle, Kelly Johnson and her husband, Doug, of Poe and Amanda Tyler of St. Albans; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Aleshia and Jacob Tyler of Albert Lea, Minn., Cody and Megan Bell of Rainelle and Sarah and Timothy Johnson of Poe; one brother, James F. Tyler Jr. of Whitewater; and two sisters, Janet Cooper of Charleston, S.C., and Virginia McKinney of Persinger.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 4, in the Legg family cemetery, Tioga, with Pastor Alva Casto Jr. and the Rev. Leotis Ward officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the White Funeral Home, Craigsville
