[3] Notes - Sloan, Norma Jean, 77, Cresson, went home to be with the Lord, February 12, 2018 at UPMC Altoona. Born August 11, 1940, Sutton WV, daughter of the late Tammy and Bertha (Compton) Payne. Survived by her husband Patrick J. of 57 years, whom she married December 12, 1959; daughters, Karen Venesky and husband, Wade; and Linda Audley; four grandchildren, Patrick and Calvin Venesky; Andrew and Anna Audley; sisters, Carol Lewis, and husband Evan; Mary Greene, and husband, Randall; Mona Simpson; and Marty Zapf, and husband, Mike; brothers-in-law, Paul Sloan and wife, Betty; Robert Sloan, and wife, Joan; sisters-in-law, Judy Williams; Florence Eberhart, and husband, Dan. Norma Jean graduated from high school in 1958 and went to Washington, D.C. where she worked for AT&T in management. In 1964 she and her husband bought PJs Tavern in Cresson. Norma continued to work for AT&T in Altoona for three years. She left AT&T to become a fulltime partner working at the tavern while spending more time raising her two daughters. Norma enjoyed bowling and playing tennis with her many friends. For 25 years she and her friends would cross country ski from Blue Knob to PJs Tavern raising over $100,000 for the Veterans Park in Cresson. Norma and her four sisters loved getting together, they went on over 15 cruises; this was one of her greatest joys in life. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; her true passion was spending time with her family. At Normas request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11 a.m., St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Fr. Matthew Reese, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Penn Cambria Special Education Dept., 201 6th St., Cresson.
