    • Charles Otto ‘Toe' Gross, 84, of Fairfield Manor, Morgantown, died on August 26, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Morgantown. He was born in Sutton on January 13, 1926, the son of the late Teddy O. Gross and Georgia Hoover Gross. He grew up in Webster County and was employed as a brakeman for B&O Railroad. He moved in Morgantown in the late 1960s to work for Consolidated Coal Company until his retirement. Charles was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Given of Elkins; son, Teddy Gross of Craigsville; brothers, Leonard Gross, of Morgantown, and Howard Gross of Reistertown, Maryland; sister, Irma ‘Toots' Shy, of Barboursville; grandchildren, Eric Given of Newport, Tennessee and Ian Given, of Elkins, and great-grandchildren, Alexandra Given, Aubrey Given, Autumn Given, of Newport, Tennessee, and Landon Given of Elkins; step-children Larry W. Hawkins and wife Linda of Akron, OH, Jesse R. Hawkins and wife Sandy of Morgantown, and John L. Hawkins and wife Angie of Vermillion, OH; Carrie E. Hawkins Parrack and husband Allen of Fairmont, WV; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well by several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friends, Charlie and Kelly Gazsi and son Paul of Morgantown, and Mary Walls of Morgantown. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wives, Bertha ‘Bea' Helmick Gross and Wilma Leighty Hawkins Gross; brother, Harold Gross; sister, Mary Dishman, and a grandson, Damien Gross. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Saturday August 28, 2010 from 6-8pm and again on Sunday from 11:30 noon until time of services at 12:30pm with Pastors M.A. Donham and Joseph L. Donham officiating. Burial will follow at the Damon Cemetery, Newburg, WV with military rites conducted by the Preston County Honor Guard and WVANG Camp Dawson.
