- John Otis Eakle, 91, of Craigsville, WV, was called home on October 13, 2016, to Heaven where he has longed to go, leaving a testimony that he would be looking for his family there and family and friends here to join him.
He was born at Tesla, Braxton County, WV, on February 02, 1925, to John Eldridge and Eddythe Frame Eakle, both deceased. He was the last surviving of nine children. John was also preceded by his first wife, Wanda Bleigh Eakle; (3) brothers and (5) sisters; Dr. Hoy Eakle, Boyd Eakle, Roy Eakle, Leah Eakle Gouchenour, Mildred Eakle Spiker, Estabelle Eakle Icard, Jean Eakle Creameans and Virginia Eakle Stewart.
John is survived by his second wife, Crystalene Sawyers Eakle, whom he loved dearly for (13) years; three children, Sharon Eakle Murray, John Jr. (Pamela) Eakle, and Richard Eakle. Also, he leaves behind a dear longtime friend, Roger Nettles of Mooresville, NC previously from Burnsville, WV; step children, Cela Sawyers Burge, Ann Sawyers Brooks, Jan Sawyers Harris, Teresa Sawyers Miller and Scott Sawyers; grandchildren, Dr. James Murray, Erin Murray Matre, Lisa Murray McWilliams, ‘Little’ John (Kristen) Eakle, April Eakle, Lauren and Emily Eakle; step grandchildren, Nora Burge, Robert Stuart, Ellen (Nick) Chambers, Megan (Justin) Maddy, Traci (Christopher) Mallett, Benjamin (Lisa) Harris, Cody Brooks, Hunter and Gage Sawyers; great grandchildren, Megan, Alyssa and Matthew Murray, Lindsay and Clare McWilliams, Lauren and Lily Matre, Bobby and Nathan Eakle, Cora Bever, Eli Jamison Eakle, and Nadia Davis; step great grandchildren, Madeline Stuart, Savannah and Shayanne Mallett, and William Franklin Green.
John was a member of St. Lukes Methodist Church of Craigsville, WV. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 33rd 65th Signal Service Battalion from February 1944 to 1946, in the South Pacific on the Island of Tinian, Saipan, Guam; a 32nd degree Shriner, #133 Masonic Lodge of Gassaway, WV. Before forming his own company, Quality Contracting, he worked for Monongahela Power Company and Penn Line Service. After retirement, John sold Quality Contracting to his son, John Jr. who own and operates this company. John Sr. loved working and helping people during his tenure with his company. He was always ready and able to give a helping hand to those in need. He was very pleased his sons are doing the same.
The family would like to thank the staff and workers of Colonial Place in Elkins, WV, for their caring and dedicated service to John. Also, to thank all staff and workers at the Mountain Hospice of Belington, WV, for their care and support for John. May God Bless each of you. John will be sadly missed by his families and friends, confident he is with his Lord and Saviour in the beautiful place he longed for.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016, at 2:00pm, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, WV, with good friend, James Thomas officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service (12:00pm-2:00pm), at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Craigsville Cemetery located behind St. Lukes Methodist Church. Friends and family will service as pallbearers. Military rites will be performed therewith. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in John’s name to either Shriners’ Children’s Hospital, 1900 Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY, 40502 or Mountain Hospice, 1002 South Crim Ave., Belington, WV, 26250.
