[1, 2] Gender Male Death 1 Jun 2022 [1] Notes - Richard R. Malcolm, 80, of Fairmont, passed away June 1, 2022 at United Hospital Center with family by his side. He was born May 29, 1942 in Sutton, WV, a son of the late Lena Mae (Salvatore "Sam") Spadafore and John Edward (Betty) Malcolm. Richard graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg. He retired from the restaurant business after twenty-four years. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years, where he spent thirteen months at Da Nang, Vietnam, as a crewmember on a C-123 Provider aircraft, flying 599 Combat Support Sorties for a total of 616 hours [LL1]in support of Counter Insurgency Operations. His decorations include the Air Crew Member Badge, Air Medal with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters, and many other awards.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandy McClure-Malcolm, his stepdaughter, Lori and son- in- law, Clint Laxton. His grandchildren, that lovingly called him "D"; Patrick, Emily, and twins Aubrey and Hiro, who made his later years in life wonderful. Also surviving are his brother, Stephen (Sandra) Malcolm, three sisters, Diana Christafore, Serena (Danny) Ashcraft, Patricia (Bob) Fisher, three brothers-in-law-- Richard, Doug (Debbie), and Roger McClure, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. Richard attended Trinity Assembly of God and was active in the Men's organization before he became ill. Richard was an avid WVU sports fan and traveled with the teams in his younger days. Richard was an original member of the "Million Dollar Club" (1988) at WVU. He loved to golf but most of all he loved watching his grandchildren play in their sports activities. A Graveside Service will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Dr. Rob Kauffelt officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Marion County Honor Guard of which Richard served many years and the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
