  Notes	Don was born June 9, 1931 in Webster Springs WV to Lloyd Carpenter and Audrey Gladys Cogar. He lied about his age and joined the US Army in 1948. After basic training he was deployed to Korea at the onset of the Korean War ending with him being critically wounded in his left arm, hip and lower legs on September 2, 1950. As a result his left arm was amputated at the elbow. He received 5 Purple Hearts for his wounds along with the Bronze Star and Korean War Unit Citation. In 1959 he met the love of his life in NancyPat Thurbon, an RN at the Beckley VA Hospital. They would later marry and celebrate 60 years of marriage February 6, 2020. Don was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Carpenter, his mother and stepfather Ray and Audrey Mullins, and his brother Aretus Mullins. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Taylorsville NC, son David and wife Brenda of Taylorsville, daughter Kim Evans and her husband Scott of Fayetteville WV, daughter Teresa Garrison and husband James of Millers Creek, NC and son Greg and wife Julia also of Taylorsville. Grandchildren Dekota Stewart, Kara Evans and Jocylyn, Haddi and Audrey Carpenter who were the light of his life. He is also survived by sisters Nina, Lenora, Kathleen, Wanda and Chiquita and one brother Larry and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Liledoun Road Church of Christ with the family receiving friends Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 1pm to 2:45pm and the funeral to follow at 3pm.
