Roy E. Chambers, Sr., of Morris, N.Y., died Friday, October 22, 2004 at his home in Morris, N.Y. He was born April 16, 1950 in Clarksburg, W.Va., the son of Marvin Edgar Chambers and Beatrice H. (Chaplik) Chambers. He was married to Barbara Stachina on May 16, 1970 at the United States Naval Station in Washington, D.C.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam, where he received numerous decorations including the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with a Palm, and the Meritorious Unit Citation. He was also detailed to the H&S Co. Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., where he was a member of the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and the White House Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara , of Morris, N.Y.; his son, Roy E. Chambers and wife, Terra, of Roanoke, Va.; his mother, Beatrice H. Chaplik and husband, Nick, of Newland, N.C.; a brother, Marvin Chambers and wife, Vicki, of Blue Ridge, Va.; three sisters, Nancy Roberts and husband, Bev, of Salem, Va., Ann Ford and husband, Steve of Ashland, Va. and Judy Garrett of Roanoke, Va.; as well as his brother-in-law, John Stachina and wife, Carolyn, of Oneonta, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris, with the Rev. Robert E. Witt, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be at a later date and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Morris Fire Department or Emergency Squad, or a Veterans Service Organization in the area. Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris, N.Y.
