[2] Notes - The injuries suffered on Thursday morning of last week by Mr. Nathan Houser, in an automobile accident, resulted in his death at 9:50 o'clock Friday night at the Dr. Bonnell M. Souder hospital at Auburn.
Mr. Houser, aged 39, suffered a basil skull fracture when the car in which he was riding plunged over a low concrete bridge abutment, six miles northwest of Burler, and dropped about 12 feet onto an ice covered creek. He did not regain consciousness after the accident.
Dr. R. A. Nason of Garrett, county coroner, said the death was undoubtedly accidental, but he had been unable so far to learn exactly how the crash occured. Vern Hankey of this city, age 35, driver of the car, was still in a dazed condition at the Souder hospital and unable to five a coherent explanation, the first of the week.
Houser was riding in a car with Oliver Slentz, about 60, and Hankey. Houser was in the back seat and Hankey was driving the car when the crash occurred. The Phelps ambulance reushed to the scene of the accident and removed the men to the hospital. Hankey whose condition the fist of the week was called serious, suffered head injuries. Slentz was treated for minor cuts and was soon released from the hospital.
The accident was investigated by State Policeman William Hunter. It was reported that Hankey was not driving fact, and that he is a careful driver, and that in all probability the road was slippery. The car, a 1936 Chevrolet, was brought to the Maxton garage, and was a total loss.
Houser's body was brought to the Johnson funeral home, where funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon, with the Rev. Argyle Houser, brother of the deceased, officiating, assisted by Rev. Alonzo Nicodemus of the local United Brethren church. Burial was made in the Butler cemetery.
Mr. Houser was born on a farm south of Butler and lived there until two weeks ago, when he moved into Butler. He is survived by the widow, Arlene, one son, Donald at home; his mother, Mrs. Henry Houser of Butler; six brothers, Albert Houser of route 1, Auburn, Glenn, Russell and Frank Houser all of Butler, and Rev. Argyle Houser of Urbana, Ill., and Mrs. Irma Brunson and Mrs. Ferne Wilson both of Butler.
