He was born January 14, 1951, son of the late Herman and June Whitaker Thompson and was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Stroupe Thompson. L. D. was a farmer, he received his Ministerial License from Spirit Quest and was a member of Brick United Methodist Church. He is survived by his sister, Barbara T. Hall of Dublin; niece, Angela Kohl and Michael of Grottoess, Va., great-niece and nephew, Gwenna and Eli; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy and James "Buggy" Bishop, Charles Stroupe, Donald and Martha Stroupe, all of Max Meadows; special cousin, Garnett Patton; special friends, Tony and Rodney Mabe; numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, and other close friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Lee Thomas officiating. Graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a. m. at the Sanders Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va. is serving the Thompson family.
