    Notes
    • Hannelore A. "Peggy" Dawson, 88, of Topeka passed away May 18, 2015 at the Midland Hospice House.

Peggy's long life was rich and filled with many interests and passions. Born January 15, 1927, in Beuthen, Germany, she was an accomplished athlete in her youth and continued to enjoy competitive sports throughout her life, participating in tennis, bowling, horseback riding, and the Senior Olympics.

Peggy had a generous spirit and enjoyed helping others, volunteering for many years at the Presbyterian Manor and the Combat Air Museum, and she was always willing to provide translation services.
Washburn students remember Peggy from the Law Library, where she spent most of her career. She had a special rapport with young people and enjoyed working in the academic world.

Peggy loved nature and the outdoors, and she spent many pleasant hours working in her yard and flower gardens. She also felt a special bond with animals and supported many animal welfare causes, especially the Helping Hands Humane Society.

Peggy had a keen interest in her world. She enjoyed travel and learning about other cultures and places, and had friends from every walk of life. Her greatest joy, though, was found with home and family. She never failed to celebrate special days, and she particularly enjoyed planning unique family get-togethers. Peggy lived life to its fullest, and she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind the light of her life, her husband of thirty-eight years, Don; daughters Linda (Larry) McGurn and Trisch (Kevin) Hackett; grandchildren Maureen (Tim) Jones, Russell Steele, and Philip Steele; great-grandchildren Hannah and Emma Jones; in Germany her brother Peter (Margret) Dziuk ; stepmother Ruth Dziuk, sister Gabriele Haas; niece Manuela Haas; cousin Kristina Schörr; and many more family and friends.

A private celebration of Peggy's life will be held by the family in a natural setting special to her.
